    Bottle Opener?? or something else.

Looks like a bottle opener at first glance. But doesn't look like any vintage bottle opener i have googled. Made of steel. Has a concave to it with two tabs on top rear and 972 on front. Maybe it is a bottle opener that mounts to a round surface. Not sure.

Do you have a bottle to see if it fits? Most openers have an attachment point above but I saw a few that had three holes below. But, they were not curved.

Yeah! It can open a bottle as if it was meant for it. But then there is the curve and the tabs. Maybe a rope tie that mounts to a pole.

It looks like it was meant to be attached to the top edge of something (2 small cleats on the upper edge). Possibly part of a latch on a curved cabinet or trunk.

looks like a latch made for a strap to go thru and tie off, almost like it would fit over the top of a cask or barrel of some type

You guys may be right. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try the property some more. Maybe I'll find something to help solve what it is. Thanks!

    Hi My Fellow TH'ers
I think that Gus has the right answer. I think the bumps on the backside are broken cleats that would have been mounted on a wood base. Congrats on the find! ;-)
