    Is this a White's Unit

My wife picked up an older detector at a garage sale recently. It is a Sears "Discriminator" Model No. 321.596460. It came in a hard case and included an owners manual. Is this a White's detector? Any idea as to how old?

    Welcome to the forum Chiefs50.
That detector is a White’s. The machine is from the early 1980’s if I’m correct.

Here’s a link to the manuel... I think it was $499.99 New too.

Thanks for the info. All I get when I turn it on is a steady tone. It does not seem to register anything.

That steady tone you hear is the threshold. That's a normal sound. Do you get any sound changes when you pass the coil over a coin?
