    October 11th, 2017 - Gold Bbros ring! 4.7 grams

I took the magic to the beach this morning, for four hours.

I was not satisfied with a tungsten ring, a junk bracelet, and some crusty coins. So, I went back out for two hours just before dark. I broke up the last minute evening search into first searching an area crammed with targets with coins going back forty years, and then searching another area that is already 99.9% clean, but that gets a fresh drop of something "sweet", about once a week.

Once it got too dark to keep mining all the targets in the trashier area, I ran over to the 99.9% clean area, and "speed searched" like a hockey player with his stick, until it was almost too dark to see the bottom.

After making numerous passes criss crossing the area, at the very last moment I got a "beeeeep" - a nice strong sweet beep, from just under the sand. Yep, the speed searching paid off. In fact, my plan paid off! I hit a Bbros gold ring. And, gold is up to $1293 per ounce, as I write.

Also, I ran into two detectorists in the morning. And, they lamented how the area seemed so "clean" they were only able to find one single coin. Isn't that sad. Just one single coin, the whole morning!

They finally moved up the beach a few hundred meters to an area that is littered with scrap aluminum. They showed me all of the scrap aluminum they had dug. They looked very discouraged. And, I "sympathized" with them. Maybe they will end up thinking that they need to go somewhere else to find a "better location". Meanwhile, in the back of my mind, I formulated my plan for the evening. And, it paid off!

Here is today's white gold Bbros ring. The magic prevails!

I found a junker stainless ring in the 99.9% clean area, about a week ago. So, I knew that I was on target for another ring out of that area.

There appears to be about one ring loss per week, in that area. That is my estimation based on finds over the last two years.

Where it is a "crapshoot" is on the type of ring that is lost. It probably leans towards gold, and platinum, over 50% of the time. But, I get the steel, and silver, too.

Also, I waited a week for these days, on account of the wave forecast. It is really calm right now, and I have access to some spots that would probably smash my detector against coral, on days when the waves are heavy.

I start plotting my searches about a week out, based on weather and wave forecasts.

Now the trick is going to be making sure that other detectorists search a time or too, and then think that the place is totally "cleaned out". I think my strategy for this is working too, because they do not understand the numbers that drive much of what works.

I think I am figuring it out...
