    MX5 on the way

    Hello all,

I thought it was about time that I joined this forum as I have gained an amazing amount of knowledge from members.

I have just ordered an MX5 and I am eagerly awaiting its arrival this week.

In a moment of pure madness, I sold my MXT a few years ago.....what was I thinking

I'm confident that the MX5 will perform as well as the MXT for general coin shooting and maybe the odd gold ring.
I have a couple of questions that hopefully can be answered?

    1. Does anyone know if the MX5 can be used in light rain?
    2. If bottlecaps are a big problem, would it be best to go for a smaller concentric coil (5.3 Eclipse) or a smaller DD coil? I believe (??) that concentric coils provide a more accurate ID on bottlecaps than a DD. My soil is generally sandy with little mineralisation to contend with.

Thanks everyone....hopefully post some nice finds in the future and no doubt some more questions.

    HH,

Welcome !! The MX5 is "weather resistant". Light rain won't hunt. Coil is waterproof. I carry a plastic freezer bag to cover display / control box in case it rains.

Concentric coils ID better. DD coils give better separation and are better in bad ground.

    Hope this is helpful.
If there's anything I hate worse than diggin' pulltabs, its missin' a gold ring.

I managed to pick up some additional coils........Detech 6" DD and the Eclipse 5.3 coil. Should have most bases covered.....no pull-tab will be safe from me now...
