Sitting inside on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Central Florida working. I figured if I can’t hunt today at least post something while taking a breather from my pile of plans and specification! My first post was about my experience, disappointment, with the Whites Pin Pointer. A response from Whites about a new pin pointer in development was great news and I will certainly “upgrade” when that time comes. I thought I would post a wish list for the my next generation PP and what I hope it does have or not have based on my experience.
1. It needs to be durable and preferably two piece housing construction. I broke the housing of my Whites PP the fourth time I went hunting when I forgot it was in my back pocket and sat on it while moving my car. It still worked but the housing seemed to be thin using cheaply constructed material. The housing material should be thick enough to take minor mishaps without breaking.
2. I would like to see the new model be completely waterproof. I have used my V3i detector in the water on a few occasions and it was nice to have a PP (another Brand) that worked underwater.
3. In my opinion it should be simple with not a lot of bells and whistles that really are not needed for a PP. An on/off button and light would be all I need but I have heard some in my detecting club wish the volume could be turned down or off on the “other brand” using a vibrate only mode so maybe something to consider. I have also read that some think a sensitivity adjustment would be nice but I personally think that is a huge mistake and just not needed. One of the great advantages that the other brand’s PP has over the Whites, at least with me, is trust. I want to be able to trust, with no adjustments to settings required, that if the PP does not alert after scanning the plug, the object is still deeper in the hole.
4. Lastly, I hope my next PP has the Whites brand name. Don’t try and get cute or fancy with the new PP just produce a product I can trust.
Happy hunting to all!
