    White's New Pin Pointer

Sitting inside on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Central Florida working. I figured if I can’t hunt today at least post something while taking a breather from my pile of plans and specification! My first post was about my experience, disappointment, with the Whites Pin Pointer. A response from Whites about a new pin pointer in development was great news and I will certainly “upgrade” when that time comes. I thought I would post a wish list for the my next generation PP and what I hope it does have or not have based on my experience.

    1. It needs to be durable and preferably two piece housing construction. I broke the housing of my Whites PP the fourth time I went hunting when I forgot it was in my back pocket and sat on it while moving my car. It still worked but the housing seemed to be thin using cheaply constructed material. The housing material should be thick enough to take minor mishaps without breaking.
    2. I would like to see the new model be completely waterproof. I have used my V3i detector in the water on a few occasions and it was nice to have a PP (another Brand) that worked underwater.
    3. In my opinion it should be simple with not a lot of bells and whistles that really are not needed for a PP. An on/off button and light would be all I need but I have heard some in my detecting club wish the volume could be turned down or off on the “other brand” using a vibrate only mode so maybe something to consider. I have also read that some think a sensitivity adjustment would be nice but I personally think that is a huge mistake and just not needed. One of the great advantages that the other brand’s PP has over the Whites, at least with me, is trust. I want to be able to trust, with no adjustments to settings required, that if the PP does not alert after scanning the plug, the object is still deeper in the hole.
    4. Lastly, I hope my next PP has the Whites brand name. Don’t try and get cute or fancy with the new PP just produce a product I can trust.

    Happy hunting to all!

All great considerations for a PP. I agree that simplicity is key. I am very confident that White's next PP with be a real winner!

I know this will probably get deleted But you can't grow if you can't take criticism. In my opinion as much as I love whites the Garrett pro pointer beats whites pointer hands down.

I have used the Whites Bulls-eye, Bulls-eye II, and the Pro Pointer, and you are correct T-Ledoux; the Pro-Pointer will out find the Bulls-eye every time. I am like many others on here; I await the arrivial of the new Whites pin pointer and I am hoping that it will beat the Pro-Pointer. I think the problem is that you have to be almost on top of the target before the Bulls-Eye even sees the target where as the Pro-Pointer can be up to several inches away. Now if you want to compare repair issues I can expand on the problems that the Pro-Pointer has, it will overload on large targets, it tends to develope dead areas. It does have a 2 year warranty but you have to provide proof of when you purchased your pin-pointer before they repair it under warranty. Customer service is OK just not close to Whites. I have to take a ribbing every time I am out with my TH'ing buddies as they use 'Other' brands of detectors and all use the Pro-Pointer, and here I am with the Whites TDI-SL and a Pro-Pointer.
I am hoping that Whites developes a pin-pointer that all my TH'ing buddies will decide to get.

I know the current White's pin pointers are being out did by the pro pointer so I would think and really hope that White's put their heads together to come up with the finest pin pointer ever to be made.I'm waiting to see how that works out,and yup it would be nice to have a good White's pin pointer to go along with my White's detector...............................

In regards to the volume issue, I took the simply approach and if I need the volume to be down because of the area i simply put a small piece of electrical tape over the speaker area and if I need more sound I just cut a small slit using a pocket knife. Less moving parts means more durability IMO.

What is the status of the new Whites Pin Pointer? Is there one coming out or not? If there is, when?

The pinpointer is coming. I don't know when it will be out. They might have people test it out before final release but don't quote me on the beta testers.

I've heard a rumor that the new pin pointer looks just like the PP II on the outside. (Let's hope the rumor is not true.)

    Here it is. Features include
    1) Case is open air so you can see the electrons working while you hunt.
    2) Easy battery access, no annoying battery doors to open or close.
    3) For only another $9.95, we will send a case of wax so you can coat your new pinpointer for waterproofing!
    4) Can spot a nickel at a foot - see the 2nd picture.
    5) Our patented specialized circuit can see deeper in the ground than in the air.

Eh, large enough so you won't lose it in tall grass, too. As soon as we get the new TreasureSpeak(TM) voice output finished it'll be ready for release. "Cold, cold, cold, warmer, warmer, really warm, you're getting hot, Hot, HOT!!!" (We've licensed both Nicole Kidman and Bobcat Goldthwait so you have your choice of voices.)

Is it true that is has a "motivational mode" ??

If you haven't dug a target in 5 minutes it says "Not real good at this are ya' ??".
In 10 minutes it says "Takin' a lunch break ??".
In 15 minutes it says "Shutting down to prevent further battery waste. Wake me up if you find anything."

I also heard rumors that if you leave it behind that you can call it from your cell phone and it will generate a series of Morse Code beeps:

    ..-. --- .-. --. . - -.-- --- ..- .-. --. .. -. -.- --- -... .. .-.. --- -... .- ..--..

Back when I did chip design the boss would ask us, "So when will it be ready to ship?" Our consistent answer was "Friday."

Ahh, that's good! I much prefer a Wednesday pin pointer!
On Mondays Carl is too hung over from the wild weekend to produce a good pin pointer, and on Fridays, he is too busy planning another wild weekend to pay attention to producing a good pin pointer.
I think Wednesdays are about the best we are ever going to see out of Carl...

ak is the design engineer for the pinpointer, not me, so my (alleged) weekend frivolities have little impact on the schedule. The real problem is that ak keeps doing what I tell her to do, instead of what I want her to do. Next engineer I hire needs to have ESP and do a little less gloating.

Nope, here in beautiful green, rainy, muddy Oregon. Fortunately I don't have the webbed feet that some manage to get.

It should at least be better than the Minelab Pro-flop. Just be sure it has the sound or vibrate choice still. That's one feature of the II that i liked! Looking forward to a no bull bullseye that can compete. The pile of money that White's makes (or doesn't) depends on beating the pro for distance at a slightly smaller $.
