Finally bought a new coil today.

Well, I've been doing the research for a while now and finally decided on the D2 10" coil. I called to order it and the rep suggested the 12X10" butterfly. At first I was a little hesitant about changing my mind but I was intrigued by butterfly. I just couldn't find enough info or anyone with feedback on it. The rep was very informative and told me that she uses the coil herself and also has experience with other coils. She said that she loved it and that it was an excellent coil, so that was good enough for me. It should arrive in a few days so I can't wait to get it. Only so that I can stare at it until I'm able to use it when the ground thaws out.

I would have went with the D2 for Whites unsurpassed warranty.

    Yeah,
Don't hurt to "try" others- but might ought to try DD10, 9.5 Eclipse, or a 4x6 or 6x10 Eclipse since all four of those are specifically made to work best with your whites box... It will work- and work good- but for the same money will it work better- probably not...
    PEACE
Finds Not only have I taken the time to double check, bend down, pinpoint, dig and pick it up- you want me to list it too? A zincoln just ain't worth any more effort!

I'm curious about how that coil works with the V3i. Others use it without reporting any major problems that I remember reading. Let us know how it works for you.

The D2 is a great coil and is standard equipment on the V3i. Those butterfly coils (from what ive read) seem to be a crap shoot. Some work fine and some don't.The only other non whites coils that are approved by Whites are from Jimmy "Sierra" Normandi (see his latest coils for the TDI series detectors).

I'm going to give it a go and see how it works. It has to be better then my Super 12". We'll see soon enough.

The D2 will cover more area than the super 12.But the 12 will see deeper and is not as susceptible to EMF like the D2 is. Shorten you rod one notch if the 12 seems heavy, makes a big difference...

    Spencra,..... opinions vary.

You made a wise choice. I actually own the coil and it is great! (I also own several other coils, both Whites and "the other brand"). It by far goes deeper than the stock 950. I've pulled mercury dimes from close to 12 inches in low mineralized soil. It also separates much better than a concentric coil (which is what I believe the Super 12 is). Watch out for rusty bottlecaps though... they will sound like quarters.

Use it in low to moderately low trash areas and you will NOT be disappointed.
