    Horstmann Button

I've searched all over the internet trying to find this button. I've found many buttons with the same front but not one button with the same Horstmann Phila back. I'd love to know how old this button is and how much it might be worth. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Horstmann/Philadelphia backing was used 1893-1935 (http://pw1.netcom.com/~jimyce/bm.html) With that in mind, would say it's off a military uniform used from the turn of the century to just prior to WWII. Nice find! To me it would be priceless! HH

    Re: Horstmann Button

Cool button, I've been diggin' into Civil War history and that button caught my eye. It appears Horstmann was doing stuff before and during the war. I found some ID's (not PHILA) but interesting just the same. Like Horstmann Bros, Allien NY and WH Horstmann & Sons (pre 1865). I found this info at www.cwrelics.com. That's Centerville Electronics, they are a White's Dealer and Service Center in Manassas VA, (did a 5 day turn around on a repair for my 6000 Di Pro) anyway, there's alot of good info on CW stuff there and it's worth a look.

Also there is a book you might look for, The Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons by Alphaeus H. Albert.

I have not seen it yet but am told it is a great reference.

Welcome, the guys here are a wealth of info.

For sure, the "Great Seal" appeared on buttons from that time (1902) to present. Have the same face/front on my old USAF uniforms. However, Horstmann/Philadelphia only produced buttons from 1893-1935. Button cannot be older than 1902 (turn of the century) or newer than 1935 (last year of H/P manufacturing) HH

I just found three of these Military uniform buttons in my collection. On the back it states "Horstmann Philia" and they have an Eagle holding an anchor on them. They are small, 1/2 inch dia. and still hold nice patina anyone have any Idea of the value?

It would really help if you can post pictures of the front and back of your buttons. There are so many variations of the Horstmann back mark that the only way to ID one is to see it. And the design on the front will also help us ID it. Maybe start your own thread about it?
